On this day in Horror History, The Shining made it’s theatrical debut. Undeniably one of the most memorable and terrifying movies of all time, the Stephen King adaption directed by legendary film-maker Stanley Kubrick will forever be a cult masterpiece at the heart of the horror genre. Starring Jack Nicholson in the iconic role of Jack Torrance, the initial release of the film in the United States garnered less than favorable reviews and box office sales. The result was a re-edited European version and a legacy that will forever shadow the trials and tribulations faced by everyone who lent their brilliance to what is one of the most celebrated and inspiring moments in cinematic history.

Today in Horror History, Pet Sematary made its theatrical debut. The first ever film to be adapted to a screenplay by Stephen King himself, it follows a Maine family and the terror lurking in their very own back yard. Filmed in the very same location the novel is set in, Pet Semetary (1989) was inspired by an incident whilst living in Orington, Maine when King’s daughter’s cat had been killed on the highway. Standing the test of time, Church the cat and the horrors that his owners face, has become a staple of the horror genre.

On this day in Horror History, Timothy James Curry was born. A cult icon, Curry is the genius behind some of popular culture’s most beloved characters. Early in his career, Curry would bless many theater productions, ultimately moving onto television and in 1975 giving us the role that would be a staple of one the most cherished films in cinematic history. As Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry would captivate the world with his multitude of talent. From his musical ability and acting presence to his sheer comedic timing, Curry would begin an acting resume that has surmounted more than 200 Films and Television shows. Behind such characters as Pennywise in Stephen Kings IT (1990), Darkness in Legend (1985), Wadsworth in Clue (1985) and many of other timeless roles, Tim Curry is a gift to most every genre of film, a living legend that we have grown to love.

On this day in Horror History, Olivia Hussey was born. A horror starlet that has lent her beauty and talent to Black Christmas (1974) and Stephen King’s IT (1990), the veteran actress of Argentina descent has stunned audiences for nearly half a century. In her break-out role as Juliet in the classic Franco Zeffirelli film adaption of the Shakespeare play, she would captivate movie goers and spawn an illustrious career. It was after the release of that film, that Hussey would ultimately find herself in one of the most peculiar of circumstances ever experienced by any actress, as she was unable to legally view the premier of Romeo and Juliet (1968) in London because she was under the age of 18 and the film had a nude scene.. Regardless that she was the one nude in the film.

On this day in Horror History, Children of the Corn made its theatrical debut. One of the many classic film adaptations of Stephen King’s works, the ’84 release depicting the cult of Nebraskan children and their slaughter of everyone over the age of 18, has become a quintessential motion picture utilizing children as antagonists in horror. In the vein of genre classics with similar elements, Children of the Corn has resonated with audiences throughout several non-successful sequels and nearly two decades, forever a reminder of the terror that lies within the innocence of a child.

March 6, 1992
On this day in Horror History, The Lawnmower Man debuted theatrically. One of the slew of Sci-Fi/Horror films to come out of the 90’s, it was this reimagining of the Stephen King short story that would do remarkably well at the box office, ultimately leading to several video game adaptations based on the film. Released on Super Nintendo, Sega CD, PC and even Game Boy, the games would all fall short of the film’s allure, as well as the sequel, The Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996), which would suffer the same fate in the shadow of the ’92 phenomena.

TVLine writes that Misery psychopath Annie Wilkes apparently has nothing on the super-villain Kathy Bates, above, is bringing to “American Horror Story in Season 3.” “Oh, Kathy’s never [played] someone this bad,” Ryan Murphy revealed to TVLine. “Her [character] is a bad, bad woman!” While most details surrounding the acclaimed actress’ buzzy new role are being kept under wraps, Murphy couldn’t help but raise fans’ expectations just a teensy bit more by promising that Bates’ Horror Story nemesis is “five times worse than [her] Misery character — which is why she liked it.” He continued, “When I pitched this to Kathy, her mouth was drop-jawed because what I was pitching actually happened. It’s a true event… You’ll see. It’s some good stuff.” “American Horror Story,” one of the best sows on television, will return this fall on FX.


I am extremely extremely EXTREMELY excited about Kathy Bates coming to "American Horror Story" it's the best thing to happen to the show since it started.

New picture from the Carrie remake starting Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie White and Julianne Moore as her extremely religious mother Margaret.

Carrie is set to be released October 18th, 2013.
