Today In Horror History

June 22, 1958
On this day in Horror History, Bruce Lorne Campbell was born in Royal Oak Michigan. Coming from humble beginnings, Campbell would find himself amidst the perfect storm in the horror industry at a young age. A close friend of director Sam Raimi with whom he met in high school, their aspirations fueled one another, and helped bring their dream to reality when they filmed Within the Woods (1978). The independent show of Campbell’s acting brilliance and Raimi’s directorial prowess would result in $350,000 raised to film The Evil Dead (1981), and in less than a decade thereafter, Campbell would be one of the most recognizable and beloved faces in cinematic history.

A kind soul who values his fans and the adoration which he’s built in the last thirty years, Campbell’s legacy continues to inspire and captivate all those who’ve had the privilege to indulge upon comedic bravado that comes naturally to the icon.

“It seemed that my lot in life was to either have big parts in small films or small parts in big films.” –Bruce Campbell

“Mr. Vaughn, what we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks, and that's all.” –Hooper

Upcoming Horror: "I Spit On Your Grave 2"

Who here has seen the original 1978 version or even the 2010 remake of  the controversial film "I Spit on Your Grave" A.K.A "Day of the Woman"?

I've personally have only seen a TV edited version on the 2010 remake and I have to be completely honest it was hard for me to stomach. Keep in mind I can watch a gory violent  film but there is a point for me where there is just to much gore and unnecessary violence that i just have to say no to ( i.e. "Saw" ,"Hostel" or any other "torture porn" film). While yes the violence in this film is justified it's still past my point, but I still sat through the film.

Anyway, this past Tuesday ( May 7th) Anchor Bay announced that "I Spit on Your Grave 2" will be released this fall.

The film stars: Jemma Dallender (“Community”), Joe Absolom (Long Time Dead), Aleksandar Aleksiev (Jack Ryan), Mary Stockley, Michael Dixon, Valentine Pelka, Yavor Baharov, George Zlatarev, Peter Silverleaf and Georgi Zlatarev.

Plot details: “Naturally beautiful, Jessica (Dallender) has just settled into New York where she, like many other young women, is trying to make it as a model. But what starts out as an innocent and simple photo shoot soon turns into something disturbingly unthinkable! Raped, tortured and kidnapped to a foreign country, Jessica is buried alive and left to die. Against all odds, she manages to escape. Severely injured, she will have to tap into the darkest places of the human psyche to not only survive, but to exact her revenge…”

Today In Horror History

April 17, 1951
On this day in Horror History, Olivia Hussey was born. A horror starlet that has lent her beauty and talent to Black Christmas (1974) and Stephen King’s IT (1990), the veteran actress of Argentina descent has stunned audiences for nearly half a century. In her break-out role as Juliet in the classic Franco Zeffirelli film adaption of the Shakespeare play, she would captivate movie goers and spawn an illustrious career. It was after the release of that film, that Hussey would ultimately find herself in one of the most peculiar of circumstances ever experienced by any actress, as she was unable to legally view the premier of Romeo and Juliet (1968) in London because she was under the age of 18 and the film had a nude scene.. Regardless that she was the one nude in the film.
