Today In Horror History
On
this day in Horror History, Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired its series
finale. Starring the beautiful Sarah Michelle Gellar as the high school
girl who hunts vampires opposite of her teenaged social life, the show
itself has became a cult icon. Today marks ten years since Buffy would
end its 7 season reign as one of the highest rated television series of
all time.

On this day in Horror History, the world would say goodbye to two
beloved television shows. After 9 Seasons and 203 episodes, ‘The
X-Files’ would come to a close in 2002 and make its mark as one of the
most celebrated science fiction horror dramas of all time. Also ending
after 5 seasons and 110 episodes, ‘Angel’ proved to be one of the most
lucrative spinoff series in history after it’s advent from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’.
Scully: "You've always said that you want to believe. But believe in what Mulder? If this is the truth that you've been looking for then what is left to believe in?"

Horror On TV: From Dusk Till Dawn
With horror going from the silver screen and becoming increasingly popular for networks to have genre themed shows such as "Bates Motel", "Hannibal", American Horror Story" & "The Walking Dead" it's no wonder more and more channels want to get in on the action.
A few weeks ago we saw the announcement of "Scream" coming to MTV.
This week we see the announcement of THREE new horror themed shows coming to network TV.
This post is about "From Dusk Till Dawn" coming to El Rey Network.
Creator Robert Rodriguez announced this himself.
Not to much information is available
Bloody Disgusting is reporting: Fans of Robert Rodriguez and his From Dusk Till Dawn might want to make an appointment with Univision in the coming months. The director has announced a partnership with the network via his own English language cable outlet El Rey Network.
Among the projects announced at the presentation were a TV his Quentin Tarintino’s vampire collaboration and movie “an as yet unnamed action series” from “Fringe” and Star Trek Into Darkness producer/writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci. Before we get too excited – remember that From Dusk Till Dawn has had two DTV follow-ups, where you a fan of those?
El Rey is set to launch at the end of the year via Comcast. Univision will be responsible for the back office operations, sales and distribution of the network.

Today In Horror History

On this day in Horror History, John Carpenter’s Vampires made it’s theatrical debut. Proving to be the only box office success of the 90’s by the famed Director, it was this film that reinvigorated Carpenter’s passion for film-making and is credited for changing his mind on retirement. Conceptually a western in the vein of horror, it follows the vengeful plight of the vampire hunter Jack Crow played by veteran actor James Woods. A testament to the brilliance of Carpenter, the ’98 release has thrust itself into infamy in the midst of the vampire genre.
“No... Well first of all, they're not romatic. Its not like they're a bunch of fuckin' fags hoppin' around in rented formal wear and seducing everybody in sight with cheesy Euro-trash accents, all right? Forget whatever you've seen in the movies: they don't turn into bats, crosses don't work. Garlic? You wanna try garlic? You could stand there with garlic around your neck and one of these buggers will bend you fucking over and take a walk up your strada-chocolata WHILE he's suckin' the blood outta your neck, all right? And they don't sleep in coffins lined in taffata. You wanna kill one, you drive a wooden stake right through his fuckin' heart. Sunlight turns 'em into crispy critters.” -Jack Crow

On this day in Horror History, Friedrich Wilhelm "F. W." Murnau passed away. As one of the most influential and groundbreaking film-makers of the silent film era, Murnau’s directorial masterpiece Nosferatu(1922) was the unlicensed adaption of the Bram Stoker classic “Dracula” and the predecessor to every vampire film ever made. Cut from another cloth than most directors throughout cinematic history, it was the talent and vision that Murnau embodied that would help shape the future of horror for the rest of time. His ability to convey such sinister and powerfully terrifying emotion in film without the spoken work is a ability that would forever make him one of the most brilliant directorial geniuses in recorded history.
"I think films of the future will use more and more of these 'camera angles', or, as I prefer to call them, these 'dramatic angles'. They help photograph thought." - F.W. Murnau
