Today In Horror History

March 6, 1992
On this day in Horror History, The Lawnmower Man debuted theatrically. One of the slew of Sci-Fi/Horror films to come out of the 90’s, it was this reimagining of the Stephen King short story that would do remarkably well at the box office, ultimately leading to several video game adaptations based on the film. Released on Super Nintendo, Sega CD, PC and even Game Boy, the games would all fall short of the film’s allure, as well as the sequel, The Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996), which would suffer the same fate in the shadow of the ’92 phenomena.

“It's not new. I realized that nothing we've been doing is new. We haven't been tapping into new areas of the brain - we've just been awakening the most ancient. This technology is simply a route to powers that conjurers and alchemists used centuries ago. The human race lost that knowledge and now I'm reclaiming it through virtual reality.” –Jobe Smith
